Why Am I Being Judge?

Back in my secondary school days, I remembered that some of my teachers kind of look down on people like me. By people like me, I meant people who took IT (Information Technology) instead of Biology as their elective subject for the SPM examination, which consisted not more than 20 students in the entire school. So, taking Chemistry and Physics, but not Biology makes me not a 100% science student.

Is that a big deal? Yea big deal for those teachers I guess, who only categorize good students through academic results. They kind of look down on sub-science students like me. Hello? I am being clear, knowing what I need in the future, and computing is really the way of living for me. All the comments that I’ve heard was, “you all are busy doing all those IT assignments, making you no time to study other subject.”, and “you’ll get to know those in universities and colleges in the future, why bother taking it now?”, “IT is easy, ah kau ah beng also can learn”, “blah blah blah”.

I’ve heard enough, does that really mean that if I learn Biology back then, I will actually use them? No, in fact most of the things learned back then does not prove useful, except for math and physics.

To tell you the truth, I’ve not regret a single bit I dropped Biology and took IT instead. No doubt there’s a lot of hands on assignment taking IT as an elective subject back then. But it is also because of these assignments, it actually made me easier in college as I’m always prepared for assignments. Also with all the hands on training I had last time, it actually helps me to adapt to new technology quicker as I was trained to do self learning.

For those teachers, I really wanted to say it right on their faces, that “going against majority does not mean I am wrong!”.

Wow, you’re absolutely correct dude! I’ve also faced not only teachers but some of my relatives that objected me taking IT.

And like you said, I’ve learnt a lot from the IT subject during my SPM days. Else, it’ll be really hard to cope with when we go to colleges or learning new stuffs. In fact, I want to thank En. Zainuddin though I don’t really like him back then. =P

I faced kinda similar situation like yours also during my secondary school. I took Bio, but when I told my friend I’m going for IT, they like, “huh? Are you sure? Got future meh?”. Luckily I made the right choice go for IT, follow what I like most. If not I’ll be very regret.

    haha, similar thing happened.
juz that i go 1 step further to drop ALL science subject.
along with art streams subject too.
i love the feeling of being the minority.

being a bad student like me, i wasn’t being judged at all.
instead, i judged those who are in science stream simply bcoz their parents or the teacher says science stream is better. in my heart only, of course.
compare to those, i think they are quite pathethic for not knowing what they want. just my two cents.

I would love to say that if you’re happy with what you’re doing, people’s opinions and comments are just some words that you take if you like it, you leave it if you dislike it. As long as you know your direction and path, you’re alright! Make it some kind of motivation la. don’t keep it in heart and take it easy, man! ;) Voice up to them, tell them nicely, if you really think you should, no harm. We have the right to tell what we think is right. It’s your life!
