Singapore Trip
Went to Singapore for the first time last Friday for a 2.5 days trip. What a shame it took so long to finally go there, so close yet never been there before. Went there with a couple of friends, and friend’s friends.
We got some cheap flights with early bookings on budget airline, namely AirAsia. Save time, and cost almost the same as train and bus. Main reason being in Singapore in the first place is watching the Final Fantasy Orchestra performance, in conjunction with Singapore’s Arts Festival.
MRT is very convenient in Singapore, which reminds me of London Tube. In case you been living under the rock, public transport in Singapore is superb. 3-5 minutes for each train to arrive, sure beat the crap out of our lousy KTM. My oh my, KTM takes 20 minutes, not punctual summore. If cancel train, that means 40minutes. Worst still, can’t get on the next train because it’s too packed with all the crowds built up earlier. So, make it 60 minutes. Plain lame.
Oh yea. And about the myth that Singaporeans do line up when boarding train? Nope, its just the same comparing here and there. But you don’t have pushing and squeezing issues going on, since there’s always a next train (only 3 minutes compared to our 20 minutes, no need to lose cool).
The first thing we do when we are there is look for our hostel, which is situated in Little India. Took quite some walking distance. Somewhere in my head, I keep thinking that the people in Little India will start dancing in group on the streets. Thanks Bollywood for that.
After checking into our hostel, it’s evening already. We went off to Orchard Road. Don’t really fancy shopping malls if you know me well enough, that evening is all about going shopping malls (good for the ladies, bad for me, so not much pictures for the day). Went to meet up my brother (who’s working in Singapore now) for dinner that night.
Next day is more enjoyable for me, went to Chinatown in the morning to grab some photos and souvenirs.
Strangely enough, the Hawker Street there doesn’t do business early. Can’t get any food till it’s 11.30am (there’s only a few shops open). Was very hungry by that time since we haven’t take in any breakfast. Guess I need to visit there at night next time, wrong timing.
In the afternoon we go off to Esplanade Theater, where the Final Fantasy Orchestra will be performed. Shoot, that’s probably the only reason why the others (with me) are here in the first place.
After the orchestra, went to the Merlion Park area to get some photos. Lot’s of tourists there, doing fancy tourist photos with the Lion-Fish. Caution: the photos right after this may consist of a lot of Lion-Fish, please do not see further if u are sensitive to either Lion or Fish.
Went to meet up some (new) friends for dinner. Then later, took a few hours to get the night shots.
There’s this Fountain of Wealth, which is suppose to be the largest fountain of the world (at the time of this writing). The fountain comes in different color lighting along with music, you can even dedicate messages to be displayed on the fountain lights.
Headed back to the Esplanade and Waterfront area again that night. Again beware, more Lion-Fish photos.
Freaking tired already that night, summore got lost on the way back to Hostel (thanks to my no sense of direction, and feel sorry Pui Yee having to acompany me). Went to police station to ask direction summore.
Next morning is about packing stuff and get to the airport. Budget airline back again for me, this time Tiger Airways which utilize the Budget Terminal, instead of the International Changi Airport terminals.
And yea, thanks for the lousy D*** service also, just when I need to activate my roaming the stupid service fails. Can’t even get any service in Singapore. For more photos please head to the gallery, Singapore Trip album. - end of post -
