‘Responsible’ Team Members

No doubt, there are a lot of annoying people in this world. Things get worse when you are assigned to a group assignment or a group project, and some of your team members turned out to be the “responsible” team member.

Several categories of “responsible” team member when you are on a group work basis:

  • NATO (No-action, Talk-Only) - this kind of people are big talkers, but never really produce anything productive. They can keep giving empty promises, at the end you have to cover the work up for them.
  • I-Do-Not-Know-How-To-Do type - this is less destructive compared to the NATO type, at least they push away responsibility in the very beginning already, so at least you have time to deal with their workload (supposed to be assigned to them).
  • Credit Stealer - got to admit this type of people is so annoying, that you feel like physically give them a punch in the face. Not only they do nothing, they even take all the credit. They talk loud, and they claim the work of others. Would you able to stand that?
  • Hollow Partner - this kind of group members, do not even appear at all. It’s like you are doing a group project, without even knowing his existence. Weird thing is that, they are able to appear when you need to do presentation of your work. Good thing is that, they go low profile and try to keep their presentation short, better that Credit Stealer.

So, have you ever encounter any of the “responsible” team members before?

I totally agree with you. Never liked any of them. I want to add another type into your list:
    - The last-minuter: jobs assigned to him will only start to do the night before due date. And at that time, he say he don’t know how to do. Finally, he’ll just give you an imcomplete and simply done work.

My housemates encountered a serious one this semester. This person (used to be a friend) grouped with my housemates for 2 assignments. And he did nothing at all! (just like the “Hollow Partner” + “Credit Stealer”). He do turn up for discussions BUT he did nothing but sleep and talk craps. The worst part is that he got higher marks than my housemate who did everything. *ggrrrr*

Luckily for me, I’ve never encounter a very serious one. Well, I have to choose my FYP partners wisely next semester or else I’ll be dragged down into the drain. =P
