Pisa and Florence

After Rome, it’s the day to Pisa and Florence. Frankly what bad luck, the it was raining when we were in Pisa to visit the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Soaking wet just like the day in Amsterdam.

Anyway, some introduction about this Pisa Tower. The leaning tower is situated in Piazza del Duomo (Cathedral Square), along with the Pisa Cathedral and Baptistry of St. John.

So when you are here, basically you will see lots of people doing shots like this. “Supporting” the tower eh?

The tour group had to grab some lunch ourselves around the Cathedral Square area, before our bus ride to Florence city.

One of the main sights in Florence is the Florence Cathedral, Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore. Personally feel astonished with the front face of the cathedral and its dome.

Around the city of Florence, there’s a lot of statues, sculptures of famous scruptor and architects. Even the statues of the great architects and painters themselves. For instance, like this guy.

Not to be missed is this old bridge over the Arno River, Vecchio Bridge.

The bridge is built during the MIddle Age and have shops on top of the bridge. My tour manager called “Golden Bridge” due to the shops on the bridge mostly sell jewelries and souvenirs.

You can sometimes see people kayaking along the Arno River when you are on the bridge.

Around the market area, you can fine this little piglet fountain, Porcellino.

Like the Juliet statue in Verona, the nose area of the piglet statue is shiny and worn out, as tourist around the world keep touching it for good luck.

Palazzo Vecchio, city hall

Other main sites in Florence city also includes the old city hall, Palazzo Vecchio that resembles a fortress. And the Franciscan church, Basilica di Santa Croce.

It was getting late in the evening, and we had to go. But our tour manager manage to convince the driver (westerners are very strict when it comes to off work hours) to go up to the hill, so that we can have a overall look of the city.

The sight of looking at the city from the top really blows me away. You can see the big dome of the Florence Cathedral, Palazzo Vecchio and Santa Croce church from here. There were tons of tourists there too, in fact there’s a couple having their wedding photos taken over there with the city view as background.
