My Canon PowerShot A570IS

I just bought a camera before my holiday to Perhentian Island, and also to serve as my travel camera when I go study in UK soon. And so, this camera, PowerShot A570IS from Canon caught my eye.

Previously, my family had two digital cameras, which they are just plain pathetic. Not only they look like a toy, but they shoot lousy and blurry photos. So, it is time for a change as I’m sick with bad photos. PowerShot A-series cameras are known as Canon’s budget line of cameras, that pretty much suitable for people who just want point and shoot simplicity, and for someone like me on a budget. :)

This PowerShot is kind of like a mid-range price I would say, it costs me RM780 with 1GB memory card. Overall the camera is made up of plastics on its body, but it doesn’t feel cheap at all. This camera doesn’t offer any Wi-Fi or touchscreen abilities, come to think of it the touchscreen isn’t really important at all, since camera suppose to be giving nice photos right? And it’s not going to be fit in easily into a pocket, due to it’s size. But on the bright side, it provides comfort grip and weight to shoot photos steadily.

7.1MP, comes with 4x optical zoom and with image stabilizer, which is a great deal in producing sharper pictures, especially for some one who have shaky hands like me. The camera also takes video with sound at 640X480 resolution at 30fps, very good video quality indeed. But what I really like about it is that, I thought of trying to learn and train to shoot photos with manual settings and understand more on photography, before I proceed into getting a DSLR camera (which are very costly). Which indeed this camera also comes with manual settings, to give you more controls over your shootings.

The camera runs on 2 AA batteries, which is debatable whether it is good or bad, based on individual preferences. I personally think that using AA batteries, makes you easier to find replacement batteries for emergencies, if by any chance your rechargeable batteries died. Featuring also a 2.5 inch LCD, to take photos and see through photos taken. There’s also an optical viewfinder, which you don’t really find nowadays on point and shoot cameras Although it’s not really that accurate, it’s proves to be useful on low light or overbright situation, when it is impossible for the LCD to show you what you are taking.

Response time are quick without flash when taking photos, and take a few seconds(a little slow) when taking photos with flash.

Manual settings wise (this can go really geeko, unless you know about photography), it has complete manual settings, shutter priority, aperture priority, exposure controls, ISO settings and burst shots. The PowerShot A570IS takes good pictures up to ISO-400, anything beyond that would be too noisy.

Automatic setting wise, which is good for just casual point and shoot users, you can choose among different options like fully auto, landscape, night view, panorama, fireworks or portrait mode, based on the photos you are taking. The camera has a fairly good face detection, that can detect multiple faces even on some dim indoor environment.

For more info, I think you should check out on DigitalCameraReview.com, on its review for this camera and its specs, wouldn’t want to go too deep and geeky. Personally I think it sure have given me a lot of flexibility and settings to mess around, and most importantly it takes good photos, at least until a certain extend to very low light condition. As for cons, it’s not slim as other point-and-shoot cameras, which may not fit someone who wants a stylish camera. Sarcastically speaking though, why would you want a stylish camera that take lousy photos? Because that is how most stylish cameras are. Small size does not equal quality photos. :)

  1. Typo Mistake Some time ago, I was looking for reviews of camera. So I wanted to search for Canon’s camera, “Powershot” series. Instead, i typed “Powershit“. Oh my god, it so happen “i” is just beside “o”, so I tend to type them wrongly, not once but quite frequent. One letter and...

This camera is a good thing for its quality and price. Glad that Canon improved from 4 AA batteries to 2, as my family’s A70 uses 4 AAs and it weights quite a bit. But none of the less, Canon never fails to take decent photos in almost any condition, thanks to its Digic processor?
