Digital Painting
Well, this is actually my first attempt to fully paint a picture using Adobe Photoshop paint brush, instead of traditional way of painting. First of all, I started sketching and scanned my picture. Then, there comes drawing the outline using Macromedia Flash. The character on my picture is actually Chiyo-chan from Azumanga Daioh anime. By the way, it was kind of hard tyring to outline the sketch with a mouse.

After I’ve done the outline, the picture was saved and opened in Adobe Photoshop for the coloring work. First stop, I started adding layers of transparency, and color on top of the transparency. That way if I screw up the coloring, it won’t affect the outline layer. I started off by coloring the skin.

Then, adding some shadow and hightlight tones to the skin color to make it more stand out of course. Same process goes for coloring the hair, uniform, the eyes and mouth. First color the base color, then adding shadow tones and highlight tones. It sure is hard painting with a mouse instead of using a pen or brush, but the good thing is you can undo you mistake.

Finally as finishing touch, background was colored with some patterns and added the speech bubble with text. There you go, a fully digital painted artwork. Check out the gallery for the full size version.
