Brussels, Capital of Belgium
At the end of my summer course programme, me and some fellow classmates joined a tour to Europe before heading back to Malaysia, visiting approximately 7 countries in 14 days.
We started off our journey from Liverpool at night of 5th September, reaching at the Port of Dover in the morning to catch the ferry to France. And crossing France, our first stop would be Brussels, capital of Belgium.
By the time we are there, it was almost noon. We got a chance to visit this Atomium monument, which suppose to be tower taking a form of a atom structure. It was built for the World’s Fair, where a public exhibition is held to exchange culture between different countries, and improve nation branding (not really sure about all these politic stuff myself).
So, next we head off to town area to have our lunch in a Chinese restaurant, and proceed on heading towards the Brussels’ historic center square. For your information, Brussels is suppose to be a Dutch speaking city originally, but due to immigrants and political changes, more of them are now French speakers, although Dutch remain as the official language.
When you are in the historic center, you can see a lot of souvenir shops and chocolate stores. Didn’t happen to try any chocolates there myself, but they seems delicious to eat. Moreover, there seems to be some sort of parade going on that day when we were there.
When it comes to this statue, many should have heard about his story (although there are a lot of versions). About this Belgian boy who have saved the day, by pissing on an ignited bomb fuse set by some bad guys, thus saving many lives.
Okay, day 1 is secured. Well, joining tour like this is pretty rush, but at the same time it makes us appreciate the time we have.
