Amsterdam, Netherlands - Part 1

Ok, a little lesson here first. Netherlands is often called as Holland, which is incorrect because Netherlands is a country, where else Holland is more of a province/state/county of Netherlands.

Windmills
Holland Windmills

First stop we are off to a little Holland village, with a clog factory, some cheese shops and of course Holland’s landmark windmills.

Many designs to choose from

We got to see how the clogs (Holland wooden shoes) are made the entire process, as well as tons of souvenirs to choose from if you wanted to buy one.

Windmill
Traditional Windmill

Nothing speaks Holland more than these giant traditional windmills. It’s a pity the weather wasn’t that good that day.

Next we are heading towards Amsterdam city centre, and what bad luck as it starts to rain heavily. We are suppose to have our lunch on our own, before heading for a canal boat ride.

Burger Vending Machine
That’s what I call fast food

While looking for food, we spot this funny vending machine. It’s a hamburger vending machine, and guess what the burger keeps warm too. Also, in case you don’t know, weed seems to be legal (and controversial) in Amsterdam.

Sex Museum
Some museum, but we didn’t went in

Quite often you can smell weed in the alleys and small streets in Amsterdam. Go into a coffee shop and order weed and coffee in Amsterdam, like you would probably order Roti Canai and Teh O Ais Limau in Mamak stall.

Tons of Bicycles
Tons of bicycles, and you thought only China has this

The rain stopped just about we are suppose to head for our canal boat ride, still the sky is bad for any photography. Along the canal, you can find lots of boat houses, called houseboat (isn’t that obvious?).

House Boat
House boat

After all owning a house boat is cheaper than actual houses. What really mystify us is that, these boat houses have actual fresh water and power supplies, how? I wonder.
